Ballina Stephenites GAA Club recently received planning permission from Mayo County Council for a major redevelopment of their Lord Edward Street grounds in Ballina, Co. Mayo.
The sweeping modernization includes splitting the existing pitch into two floodlit pitches, adding a new 78m Astro-turf pitch, and building a 47.5m hurling wall.
The multi-faceted proposed development features the following key elements to modernize the club for future generations:
Dual Pitches: The current main pitch will be divided into two separate playing fields, both equipped with dedicated dugouts, ball-stop netting, and high-level floodlights.
Astro-Turf Facility: Addition of a 78m × 47.5m Astro-turf pitch, complete with its own floodlighting and ball-stop netting.
Hurling Wall: A 47.5m wide by 5m high practice wall, situated between the western site boundary and the proposed Astro-turf pitch.
Site Enhancements: Upgraded traffic access routes, reconfigured car parking facilities, and an additional storage shed.
Clubhouse Upgrades: Supported by LEADER Programme funding for site drainage and car park resurfacing, as well as for clubhouse modernization.
The club, celebrating its 140th anniversary, publicly launched its ambitious fundraising and facility plans at an event at the Great National Hotel. This extensive upgrade is expected to alleviate training congestion and facilitate year-round, weather-resistant play.
