Architecturally, this contemporary rural residence combines a traditional pitched-roof house form with modern extensions and restrained materials. The composition is asymmetrical and articulated into several interconnected volumes rather than appearing as a single large block.
A two-storey central section forms the dominant mass, with steeply pitched slate roofs and simple gable ends referencing traditional vernacular architecture. Lower single-storey wings extend horizontally on either side, reducing the apparent scale of the building and helping it sit comfortably within the open landscape.
The exterior uses a limited, natural material palette: smooth light-coloured rendered walls are contrasted with dark slate roofing, charcoal metal fascia's and detailing, areas of vertical timber cladding, and a section of dark natural-stone facing. These materials give the house a contemporary character while retaining a strong connection to rural building traditions.
The front elevation is defined by large, vertically proportioned windows and glazed openings, with dark frames creating a crisp contrast against the render. The recessed main entrance is positioned beneath a projecting horizontal roof element, giving it shelter and visual emphasis without requiring an elaborate porch. The timber-clad single-storey volume introduces warmth and provides a strong horizontal counterpoint to the taller rendered gables.
To the right, the building transitions into an integrated open-sided carport, whose flat roof extends the horizontal architectural language of the lower wings. The combination of pitched principal roofs and carefully controlled flat-roofed elements gives the house a distinctly contemporary appearance without abandoning traditional domestic proportions. The surrounding landscape is deliberately informal and spacious. Overall, the design could be described as contemporary vernacular architecture: a modern interpretation of the traditional rural house.
